With sun severely lacking at the moment I have a post from Beth Jones to help us to dream of our summer holidays.

With it being March, and the warmer weather not in sight, our minds can turn to summer holidays. If you are looking to get something booked soon, you might be struggling to think of where to go to. With children, there might be certain requirements. You might not want to go long haul because of the cost. Plus, that might not be the best idea for some children. You want to make sure that there is a lot to do for you as a family. There are things like car rental, accommodation and even things like access to shops and restaurants that you might need to think of. Travel with children can require a lot of planning! Here are a few travel destinations that are perfect for families.

If you don’t want to travel too far, you should consider a family holiday on the Vendee coast in France. You could get a ferry or use the Eurotunnel and then you could drive, if that is easier for you. It is a popular destination for families. It is easy to see why with its long, sloping sandy beaches. There are plenty of towns and cities close by that you can explore. They all host markets and there are castles you can visit. So something for everyone to explore. There are water parks for family fun if the beach isn’t your thing. If you wanted something else to do, there are plenty of cycling routes in the area. So if you are driving, and your family loves to cycle, you could take your own bikes with you.

Another great destination for families is Alicante in Spain. It is quite inexpensive to fly to from the UK. It hosts some gorgeous beaches, as well as a cool city to visit. The marina in Alicante is beautiful and you can even have dinner on a pirate ship if you wanted to! A drive not too far away would take you towards Benidorm where there is lots to do. You could visit the lakes up in the mountains. There are also animal parks and water parks in the area; even a theme park. Lots to do for children of all ages.

You can’t go too far wrong with the Canary Islands for family holidays. They are a little further out to travel to, but they are worth it. Smaller locations so if you rented a car, can just about see the whole island. You are pretty much guaranteed good weather. So along with the gorgeous beaches on the islands, they are a great option.

If your children are a little bit older, then exploring a city like Rome would be fantastic. There is so much history that they will love, and the sights are stunning. You can’t forget about the amazing shopping or gelato either. They will see a lot of places that have been used in films, which makes it more fun. You wouldn’t need to hire a care either, making the cost of the holiday lower.
