If you’ve reached a point where you’re looking at losing your baby weight, there are tonnes of great ways to do so. Whether you prefer to push yourself to the limit or take it one step at a time, there are a range of exercises which you can bring into your daily routine.

No matter how eager you are to start working out, however, it’s really important to remember that you should not consider doing any intense exercise or dieting until at least eight weeks after giving birth. Your body’s been through a lot so just take it easy!

Walking the dog

Rather than sending your partner out with your beloved pooch at the end of the day, pick up the lead yourself and take a walk around your local park or field. Walking is a fantastic exercise, especially when you power walk and will ensure you maintain a bond with your dog!

If you’re feeling up to the challenge, take the dog for a run rather than a walk. You canine companion will be happy for the added exercise and will spur you on when you feel like quitting!

Joining a dance class

An important thing for mum’s to make time for is time for themselves. It’s very easy to neglect yourself and your needs when you’ve had a baby, but having an hour away from home one a week will help keep your spirits high.

A dance class is the perfect way to do this, as you’ll not only have some time to yourself, but you’ll make new friends and learn a new skill! Ballet is a great way to do this, as is hip hop and jazz classes. I didn’t realise quite how good dance can be for you until I read this post on Dance Direct’s blog.

Everyone’s had the dream of being a dancer, and there’s no reason for you to not take up this fantastic exercise now!

Taking a mother-baby swim class

The earlier you teach babies to swim, the more comfortable they’ll be in the water in later life. Mother-baby swim classes are also a fantastic way to bond with your baby, and you’ll be fascinated by the abilities your tiny treasure already has!

It’s also a great, relaxed workout for you as all swimming is, and will help you slide back into an exercise regime. You’ll also get to meet other new mums and may even make some new friends!
