Bob loves books! We have a difficult decision every evening limiting it to 2 bedtime stories and she often asks us to read to her during the day.
When I was asked if I would like to review the Fergus Ferry series I knew that Bob would love the opportunity.
There are 4 series (fleets) and each series contain 6 books. The stories are about Fergus, a ferry who is very good at saving the day.
Each story starts in the same way and Bob can already recite the opening. She loves being able to help with the reading!
I couldn’t stop singing the opening as it really reminded me of some song lyrics. The words are, ‘Chug, chug, chug – what’s that sound? It’s Fergus the Ferry on his round.’ and I sang them to the tune of, ‘Stop, children, what’s that sound? Everybody look what’s going down.’
Sometimes the opening lines vary slightly and when this happened Bob thought I was reading it wrong. The last line of the story is also the same in many of the books and Bob loves the repetition.
We have been enjoying the books for a few weeks now and, as well as choosing them for her bedtime story, Bob often decides to ‘read’ the books by herself.
Sorry about the quality of the second part of the video. When Bob started ‘reading’ I grabbed my phone and the light was terrible. I didn’t want to miss the moment though.
Fergus is a lovely character and even when his sailor has given up on a problem he finds a way to save the day. All the stories are illustrated in a fun and bright but simple way and I thought they were perfect. Bob loved the images and often refers to the stories using them, e.g. ‘Can we read the kangaroo one?’ or, ‘Where’s the one with the girl boat Mummy?’
We have really enjoyed reviewing the books and I am pleased to have a set of them to giveaway to one of my lovely readers. There are 24 books in total and the cost $89 (£48). There are several ways to enter using the Rafflecopter below.
There is a Fergus Ferry app which contains e books of the series and a game. This usually costs $89 but until the 31st of January it is free!
So difficult to choose a favourite! One of my favourites is Little Bear’s Trousers by Jane Hissey.
I have personally always loved “We’re going on a bear hunt”. I just love the adventure of it and it was one of the first books I got for the wee man. He is a huge fan of books and Julia Donaldson and Eric Carle are current favourite authors both of which I love as well.
