Firstly let me introduce myself, you have probably seen silly pictures of me dressed in all kinds of fancy dress. I am Charlotte’s husband and until I met charlotte a very straight laced never dress up type of guy!! Charlotte’s fun loving attitude to life has certainly rubbed off, but of course as a husband and dad I sometimes do have to have a more serious side.

This is especially true when it comes to motoring. I can’t think of a much more important decision than what car to buy especially when it is carrying two of the most precious things to me inside it. I wish that Charlotte would be happy with a reliable family car like the Honda CRV 2013.

Charlotte has always had some special requests when it comes to motoring, which I guess do match her personality. Instead of the usual terms associated with buying a car such as sporty, soft top or prestige, Charlotte’s key words were friendly looking, smiling and round headlights. In fact the round headlights are probably the most important thing to Charlotte and, in the past, she has had some lovely cars with round headlights such as a beetle and mini. Unfortunately these cars are not practical with a push chair so I compiled a list of things Charlotte now needed in a car and we went of to look for the ONE! To begin with Charlotte insisted on adding a few ‘conditions’ of her own so the task was quite tricky.

Our List

* Safe

* Reliable

* Small but with 5 doors and plenty of room in the boot for push chair, shopping, etc.

* 4×4 as she was sick of getting stuck in snow.

* Friendly looking (the grill on the front should be smiling and not look angry).

* Round headlights (apparently this also helps with the friendly look as the ones with square headlights look mean?)

* A girly color but not pink.

I will stop the list there so that I don’t bore you. First we went to a car supermarket place so that we could see many makes and models. For any of you that haven’t been to one you arrive and are normally asked to take a seat whilst they try to find the right car for you. Picture the scene; Charlotte, Bob and myself, sat at a table with a young smartly dressed guy asks what are we looking for. I began telling him our list. By the time i got to ‘friendly looking not angry’ the sales person was looking around the room and not giving me all his attention. He was either looking for help, another customer or hidden cameras as he was sure that I had been sent by Jeremy Beadle! He said we were probably best to look around ourselves and we then spent hours searching for the ‘right car’.

After weeks of searching Charlotte finally took some of her ‘requirements of the list and settled for a Jeep Cherokee because Melinda in Ghost Whisperer drives one. Although she likes this vehicle it uses lots of diesel and it is a but ‘clunky’ (her words not mine).

I somehow think it will be impossible to find the car which has everything that Charlotte wants. The Honda CRV does come in passion red so maybe that will help me to sway her. Wish me luck!
