I never know what to buy my husband for Christmas. His birthday is at the end of November so every year, around this time, I ask him if there is anything that he would like for his birthday or for Christmas. The answer is always the same, ‘Just get me a bottle of Whisky.’
When I point out that he has a cupboard full of various whiskies (previous birthday and Christmas gifts) he says that you can never have too much. I rack my brains, mention a few ideas and drop several hints but I get nothing!
Then in January, after I have excelled myself in the present buying department, twice, he says things like, ‘I’m running out of aftershave.’ and ‘I really wish I had asked for a Kindle for Christmas!’ This happens every year!!!
Last night I started to quiz him about what he might like this year. He did excel himself and, as well as asking for a bottle of whisky, he said that he would like a jacket. I got excited at the thought of stress free present buying. He then added that it was a very specific jacket that he was looking for and he had been unable to find it yet. Oh dear!
I told him that if he started asking for things in January he would be in trouble. He insisted that there was nothing that he wanted or needed.
I am very tempted to wrap up an I.O.U. which he can cash in when he decides what he would like in January. On the other hand I think that I might be being a bit of a grinch. Surely half the fun of Christmas is tearing your hair out trying to find the perfect present.
Do you think that I would get away with an I.O.U.?
An IOU is perfect! We have the same problem with both Scott and me, our birthdays are a week before Christmas and we never know what we want until Jan. I say do it! 😉
:0) I’m very tempted! x
Haha glad it’s not just me! I never know what to get James, and if he does give ideas, it’s always technical gadgets that I have no idea about (and hate giving because I know they will just end up in a pile with the rest of them)! His birthday is early December, a week after mine, and I must admit I often buy his present within that week so I can gage how much to spend and what to get a bit more (I know that’s really bad)! Men are always the hardest!
They are terrible to buy for! You should tell him you wait to buy him a gift after he’s bought yours. He might spend more. ;0) x
IOU’s are the way forward! i have the same problem every year and it drives me INSANE! i feel your pain!
