I have seen homemade famous biscuits in coffee shops before now and always thought they looked amazing! By homemade famous biscuits I mean the classic biscuits that have been bought for generations but a homemade version.

Bob and I love baking so when we were asked if we would liked to review the Dexham Classic British Biscuit Cutters I was very excited!

The cutters come in a box of 4 and they can be used to make custard creams, jammy dodgers, bourbon biscuits and party rings. I couldn’t wait to use them and see how my homemade famous biscuits would turn out.

There is a recipe for each of the biscuits on the Dexham website. After looking at the website and taking into account personal preference (I am not a big fan of bourbon biscuits) we decided to make custard creams and jammy dodgers first.

To begin with we made the custard cream dough.

Bob is getting really good at baking!

I love her concentration face!

I only need to help her with a couple of things like adding the egg and rolling out the dough.

Rolling

When I have tasted shop bought custard creams the biscuit tastes quite plain and I always thought the custard flavour came from the cream. The recipe for these custard creams also has custard powder in the biscuit. 🙂 I couldn’t wait to try them!

Bob loved cutting out the custard creams. You had to cut the shape and then press the handle to make to pattern. To begin with her biscuits didn’t have the pattern on them as she wasn’t pressing hard enough but after a bit of practise she had got it.

Whilst our custard creams were baking we made the dough for the jammy dodgers. I was surprised that the jammy dodger recipe used icing sugar instead of caster sugar and I was curious to see how the biscuits turned out.

Again you cut out the shape and then pressed to make the pattern. I loved the little frill they had around the edges! We only made the pattern on half of the jammy dodger biscuits as I thought it would be wasted on the bottom half.

Splat

We then used the secret heart cutter on the end of the main cutter to cut a heart shaped hole in the biscuits that were going to be on the top.

The custard creams rose in the oven and, although they lost some of the pattern during the cooking process, they still looked fab!

We then made the custard filling whilst we baked our jammy dodgers. The last step was to add boiling water. Before I added it I tasted the mixture and I was disappointed to find it tasted like butter cream. I then added the boiling water and it was the magic ingredient! It turned the mixture into a scrummy custard cream filling!

Bob and I had lots of fun assembling the custard creams!

Filling

The best part about making homemade famous biscuits is that you can add as much filling as you like! Mine were like mini sky scrapers. 🙂

The same rule applied when we were filling the jammy dodgers. I couldn’t make these as high but I tried. 🙂

We had some custard filling left over so we also made some jam & custard dodgers.

The biscuits were delicious! I think my favourite were the jam & custard dodgers.

My husband said they were the nicest biscuits we have ever made!

You can buy your own classic cutters here for just £10.95.

Wow I have biscuit cutter envy! I already have my fair share of cutters but I think I would certainly make sure there was room in the cupboard for these.

They have come out a treat too – love the jammy dodgers 🙂
