A soft, cool breeze caresses the curtains of your room, tousles the bedcovers and seems to sweetly kiss your face, easing your eyes open and into the new day. The low, calming light of the morning is gently playing around the edges of your curtains. There’s probably soothing classical music playing in the background to tenderly welcome you to the world again.

Once awake, it’s time to get everything ready for the day ahead. Mornings in a family household can be a race against the clock and one of the things at the top of your priorities is giving your kids a nutritious start to their day.

Making sure your kids have a varied diet can be tough – so why not try a few quick and simple ideas to give you a head start?

Weetabix

A banana or other piece of fruit with granola or cereal bars. A really basic idea, but great for the most rushed situations. Cereal bars offer an interesting deviation on a bowl of cereal and give children the energy boost they need, especially the wholegrain variations. Add a piece of fruit which is full of vitamins and minerals with the more exciting bar is a good way to start your kids off towards their five-a-day.

Natural or plain yogurt with sliced or diced fruit and crisp bread. This is really all about finding quick ways to get that all-important fruit into your child’s diet. Picking the fruit for the yogurt with your child can make the meal more exciting and encourage them to eat it and it will also often be healthier than just buying fruit yogurts.

Crumpet

Seasoned oatmeal porridge and a glass of juice. Wholegrain food yet again! It is just such a healthy option! Getting children to eat something with a lot of fibre like oatmeal, however, can be quite difficult. Seasoning it with a dollop of honey or raisins can be a good way to make it more child-friendly.
