As regular readers of my blog may know, my daughter is not the best sleeper. When she was born she wanted feeding every half an hour and, even when she was fast asleep, if you put her in her Moses basket she would immediately wake up and scream.
I expressed my concerns to my midwife and she said she would come and help. She spent 2 hours trying every trick in the book. She even rolled up a towel and placed it around Bob so she would feel like she was in someone’s arms. Nothing worked!
I was hoping that our new addition would sleep better. After all he couldn’t be any worse. I was asked if we would like to review Ewan the Dream Sheep from Sweet Dreamers whilst I was still pregnant and I thought it would be a good idea to have him on board just in case.
I had heard about a dream sheep when Bob was born. Several friends recommended him to me as he has helped to settle all of their babies but I already had something similar and it did nothing to settle Bob. I was interested to try one and hopefully see it’s magical capabilities.
Ewan has 4 different sounds and each leg plays a different one. The lullaby was my favourite and I also found the pink light that Ewan gives off quite calming. I hoped that our new baby would think the same.
When Bow was born I was pleased that he slept better than his big sister. He was happy to go 2 hours between feeds! In the first couple of weeks we used Ewan at times when he seemed unsettled and it did seem to have a calming affect on him.
His tail velcros together so that Ewan can be attached to the side of a cot or a moses basket safely.
We struggled to work out how to turn Ewan off. I blame baby brain! At first I thought that the 20 minute timer was the only option and we had to wait for it to go off on it’s own. It’s a good job Bow’s daddy and I didn’t mind the sounds. We soon realised that he was very easy to turn off. You just press and hold the button on any leg and he switches off.
At first Bow only liked to sleep in the day and at night he liked to party. This is where Ewan came to our rescue. We were already making night feeds different from day feeds in the hope that he would start to sleep at nighttime. Day feeds were light and noisy and night feeds were dark and quite. This didn’t seem to be working.
I started to use Ewan only at night and every time I fed Bow I played the lullaby and had Ewan where he could see the calming red glow. Already Bow is now sleeping after several of his night feeds. Last night he fed at 10pm and then slept until 12.30am. He then fed again and then slept until 3am. We were up from 3 having a party but I think that’s great progress!
Disclaimer: We were sent the Dream Sheep free of charge for the purpose of this review but all opinions and photographs are our own.
Ewan looks so soft and fluffy its no wonder that Bow ( cool name by the way) is drifting off earlier than normal. There is something about lights that are soothing for babies.
It is his nickname which I use on my blog as he is a rainbow baby. xx
Sounds like a good product and a great gift idea x
