Give lunchboxes a seasonal twist
Getting your children to eat their lunch can be difficult at the best of times, which is why using the seasons as a way to create variety is a great idea. Kids, especially fussy eaters, tend to adore pizza. You may be thinking that such a meal choice is anything but Christmassy but with a little kitchen DIY (which your children can help you with) you can give an everyday pizza a statement twist.
Styling pizza dough into a snowman or a Christmas tree is certainly one way to do this. You can create your own dough using a mixture of whole-wheat flour, white flour, active dry yeast, sugar, olive oil, water and a little seasoning. You can even add garlic powder and grated Parmesan cheese to the mix for extra flavour.
The messy part, which the kids seem to love, involves rolling out the dough into various shapes. For the snowman, make three round pizza bases that decrease in size. One will be used as the head and the other two as the body. If you find creating the shapes a little difficult, you can always employ the services of your handy pastry cutter.
After you’ve added the sauce and cheese, create a scarf using a little pepperoni and use vegetables to create the buttons, eyes and nose.
This is a great, healthy lunch box treat, especially when wholesome ingredients are used. Either make it early in the morning or at night, then leave it in the fridge ready to pack it in their lunch boxes the next day.
