It may have taken me 2 years but I have finally got my confidence back when it comes to driving.

I drove halfway to Devon the other day and feel as if I could drive anywhere as long as I have Siri telling me which way to go.

After the accident I never thought I would be comfortable behind the wheel again. I panicked as there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. If I had been speeding or not concentrating I could have changed things in the future but the accident was out of my hands.

Bob and I were driving along a windy country road when, all of a sudden, the car wouldn’t do what I wanted it to. It lurched off to the side and I tried to compensate but before I knew it we were rolling.

It was awful! I remember watching the wall in front of me rotate and praying that we landed the right way up. As soon as the car landed on it’s tyres Bob woke up scared and crying. I grabbed her out of her car seat and held her tighter than ever!

We got out of the car and I stood in shock! The things that had been in the boot were on the road and the bonnet and boot were crushed. The only part of the car that looked alright was the place where we had been sat.

I didn’t know where my phone was. It had been in my bag in the back seat but the contents of that were now everywhere. The road was quiet and I knew it could be a long time before anyone came. I just stood holding Bob not knowing what to do.

After a while a car came. I was blocking the road so he just stopped and waited. I am not sure what he expected me to do. When I realised that he wasn’t going to get out of his car. I walked to him. I told him that I was sorry to bother him but I really needed some help. He got out of the car and found his phone so that I could ring my husband.

As I was trying to contact him another car came. A couple got out and the woman was amazing! She comforted me and got in touch with Michael. I really wish I had some way of thanking her but I have no idea who she was.

I am not sure what happened after that. Everything is a blur. I remember being sat in the ambulance telling them what had happened but they didn’t believe me. They said there was no way I had rolled the car. I explained that if the car hadn’t rolled than wall had but they just thought I was confused.

After hours in A&E Michael drove home past where the accident had happened to make sure the car had been removed. I didn’t realise he was going to do this and when we reached the place I broke down. It was awful!

That night I spent hours trying to work out what had happened but I had no idea. I also kept questioning whether or not the car had rolled as the paramedics had been so convinced that it hadn’t. I felt like I was going crazy!

The next day Michael took the car keys to the scrap yard and questions were finally answered. Apparently a tyre had blown which had made the car lose control. The man also asked Michael if I had rolled the car. Michael told him how I thought I had but the paramedics didn’t think so. He confirmed that I had. The roof of the car was covered in scratches and it was the only way that all of the damage could have occurred.

Apparently the car that I was driving was prone to rolling. It was a Daihatsu Terios and although they are tall they are narrow and top heavy.

It took me a long time to regain my confidence but I now feel as if I finally have my freedom back. I wouldn’t feel safe driving any car but I feel that Bob and I are safe in my trusty Jeep.

Car Fun

A good car is as important as good tyres! Point S deals in quality car tyres from reputable brands, which can be fitted locally, all over UK. As they say, ‘Your tyres are essential for safe driving; they are the only link between your vehicle and the road – a critical contact area no bigger than the palm of your hand.’

I don’t know what caused my tyre to blow. Maybe it was the tyre quality, maybe it was a nail. I just know that because that happened Bob and I were involved in a terrible accident that affected our lives for quite a while.

For a long time I wouldn’t drive at all. I then would only drive in certain situations. Now, finally I feel as if I can drive anywhere! Anywhere apart from the road on which the accident happened!

Oh my goodness that must have been so terrifying. You poor thing and good on you for getting back into a car, I’m not surprised that it took you a while. We are all so dependent on cars, it is so tough to manage without them
