I have always been conscious of road safety since Bob was old enough to walk. We make a point of stopping at the side of the road even though we only get 1 car an hour down our street.
Bob has now learnt the green cross code! I have no idea where she has learnt this from. I am guessing it must be CBeebies. When we reach the side of the road she now stops and says, ‘Look left, look right, nothing coming, off we go.’ Brilliant!
For Christmas Bob got a Peppa Pig bike. It is supposed to be a balance bike from the age of 2 and it the converts into a pedal bike with stabilisers. It is not very good as it is very wobbly with stabilisers and Bob couldn’t touch the floor so she couldn’t use it as a balance bike.
She loved to sit on it and be pulled around and she could almost ride it using the pedals but it worried me how unstable the stabilisers seemed. She is now a little taller and can just touch the floor. She still cannot use it as a proper balance bike but she can push herself around on it.
I don’t know how I am going to cope as Bob grows up and the dangers increase. I worry so much about things that aren’t really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. How will I cope when she is riding a big bike without stabilisers or driving a car!?!
These scary statistics don’t help my worrying. Luckily the government is trying to do something about it.
