As you all know, I love a party, especially organising them. I love choosing a theme, working out what food to serve, how to decorate the room and what activities to include.

Like many mums I tend to get wrapped up in sorting everything out for the Bob and Bow and end up leaving getting myself ready to the last minute. I once forgot to take my coat out with us when it was freezing but at least I had a sticker book.

I have my husbands works Christmas do coming up. (They celebrate after Christmas when they are less busy.) I haven’t gone through my wardrobe for a long time and I don’t have many party outfits, apart from the beautiful dress I got in August. Unfortunately that is a summery dress so I desparately need to go shopping!

lovely fifties dress

Looking online there are some lovely dresses available, many of which could easily be dressed up for a party but can still double up as everyday wear. This is great for me as I rarely get to go ‘out out’. Here are some of the styles I have been looking at.

Lace and chiffon dresses

Lace and chiffon dresses are a great! They are soft and floaty, and luxurious looking. Adding a nice pair of court shoes, a matching clutch and a luxurious wrap or shrug creates a beautiful party outfit. If you buy a plain, light coloured one, you can also wear it in the summer. It will look just as nice paired with a light pair of sandals, without the shawl. This kind of dress is perfect for taking on holiday.

Glamorous full-length dresses

Long dresses are great if you are going to a more formal affair. They are an especially good option for a wedding reception, or something similar. Right now, it is easy to find a cut that will flatter your figure, and fully cover any areas of your body that you are self-conscious about. There are some stunning maxi dresses available.

The 70s fashion revival means that there are also some very nice full-length halter neck style dresses available. Again, if you opt for one made from lightweight material you can were this in the summer too. Maxi dresses are particularly versatile.

Print dresses

If you are going to a party it is nice to buy an entire new outfit, but sometimes money is just too tight to allow you to do this. Very few people can afford to buy a new handbag, shoes and jewellery every time they are invited out. When money is tight, a beautiful jersey print dress is a great option. They always look nice, and it is easy to find one that will match the accessories that you already own.

The other good thing about jersey is that it keeps its shape and is super easy to take care of. It doesn’t crease easily, it is usually machine washable, and it dries quickly which makes it perfect for busy mums.
