One of my best friends is pregnant so we are excited to plan her baby shower. Today I have a post from Molly White with some helpful hints.

So one of your friends is pregnant. What better way to show them a little love by throwing them a baby shower? It’s a great excuse to get together with all of your friends and spend some quality time together. Life is busy and sometimes we don’t make as much time for our friends as we should. Time has a habit of running away from us! It’s easy for days to turn into weeks and weeks into months. Before you know, you haven’t seen your nearest and dearest for ages. It’s all too commonplace in this hectic world. A good excuse to have a get-together is hard to come by, so grab it with both hands!

Throwing a baby shower doesn’t have to be a lot of work. First of all, you have to find a venue. Are you going to hold it at your house or the mother – to- be’s? She has enough on her plate without having to get her house ready for visitors. If it is the most suitable place for you all to meet, then make sure you give her a hand getting the place ready. She needs to be relaxing, not tidying up after her friends.

You can have wine at a baby shower but check with the mum to be first. Don’t go crazy, though. After all, she won’t be drinking, and the last thing you want is anyone to end up in a state. Keep it civilised. Ensure you have a selection of soft drinks and cordials. Why not have afternoon tea? If you’re doing this, you might want to bear a few things in mind. Do get some decaf in – lots of women avoid caffeine in pregnancy. Also, keep in mind any sandwich fillings or snacks. Don’t use seafood, or unpasteurised cheeses. So that’s brie and bacon, and prawn sarnies definitely out! None of these are regarded as safe when you are expecting.

It’s traditional to buy presents for the baby’s imminent arrival. There is a whole load of different newborn baby gifts that you can get. From rattles to onesies, or diapers to dummies, you’re not going to run short of ideas. A good tip is to buy baby clothes up a couple of sizes from newborn. Lots of people tend to get something in the smallest sizes, so it fits straight away. But, this is what nearly everyone does, and so a new mom she finds she has way too many clothes for the first three months. Be thoughtful and buy something that will come in handy later. Moms will appreciate this more than you might realise!

baby shower games

It’s customary to play some games at a baby shower. You could play a game to guess the sex of her little one when he or she finally makes an appearance. That’s if you don’t already know, that is! You could also try and guess the weight, or have fun suggesting a heap of different names. If they haven’t picked yet, you could prove inspirational!
